67 Galaxie 500 XL
| Question: I need to know the rear wheel cylinder sizes for a 67 Galaxie 500 XL 390. 15/16 or 29/32? Response(s) had the same question myself while replacing cylinders on my 66. what i found was that usually the larger of the cylinders were used on the xl and the 7 ltr. the larger ones are just a little more heavier duty than the small. i went with the 15/16 cause you can never have too much stopping power.

1963 For Galaxie 6cyl
| Question: My sons 1963, 6cyl, will not start or do anything when the key is turned. If I jump ground to the red/blue wire on the starting solinoid it will start, but only run off of the battery. The Gen light comes on, but I think that is because the regulator is not working right or not getting a right input, i.e. the ground to the red/blue wire. This wire runs all the way to the ignition switch, but I cannot see to jump it to ground any where else to get the car to start. Getting confused in Iowa. Response(s)

1966 Ford Galaxie 500
| Question: Hi, was wondering if anybody could tell me the location of the block VIN number cuz I'm trying to figure out what motor is in my 66 Galaxie 500. It has a 390 emblems on it but I keep hearing different things about different motors in it so I am just trying to figure it out so then I can start my restoration on the vehicle. Thankx and please get back to me as soon as you can. Response(s) I have a 66 Gal Conv
First the vin on the car will tell you what engine it left the factory with
5th position will be a letter
X= 352 4BBL
Z= 390 2BBL
R= 428 4BBL
you can look in this site to help you decode the vin
As far as engine, if it is an FE(352) series motor, it will have a raised 352 in the drivers side just below the cylinder head on the block near the water pump plus the valve cover rail is part of the intake manifold
If it is a small block, ie 289,302 then the will not have the valve cover rail as part of the intake. If i remember, the only choices are 289,302,352,390,and 428 cid
If someone put in a "385" series motor, 429 or 460 cid, it will have 385 raised in the same place on the block below the head drivers side
good luck

65 Galaxie Convertible
| Question: I have a 65 Galaxie Convertible. 390 car has a cruise-o-matic. Will a C6 fit? Response(s) I swapped my cruise-o-matic for a C6 in my 289 65 Galaxie no problem. I used a Lokar kit to connect the column shifter. I had to slide the crossmember back to line up the transmission mount. My car did not come with a driveshaft, so I had one made.

| Question: I need to replace the fuel sending unit in my 1967 Galaxie 500 2 dr . H.T. fastback. Do I have to remove the gas tank? Response(s) I am going to say no. It will probably be a pain, but it can be done. I of course recommend to everyone to buy a service manual. Best money you can spend.
I just bought the same car and need to replace the sending unit too. I have a dumb question; since the sending unit is mounted on the side of the gas tank does it need to be emptied first? How expensive is it?
took mine out of a 66 convert without dropping tank

| Question From: Werner 2012-01-08
1972 Galaxie 500 4dr sedan
| Question: Hello, Is there a way to find the production date (even approximately, say a month) from only the VIN? I have a model 1972 Ford Galaxie500 4dr sedan. It's an export (sold originally by Ford in Belgium, EU. Production plant is Norfolk, VA, USA. I contacted Ford USA headquarters, but they need the codes on the door tag. The problem is, the door tag is missing, from a previous restoration (or exports never had one?). The only identification it carries (besides its Belgian registration papers) is a Belgian VIN fender plate from Ford Motor Company Antwerp (it only shows VIN, a Belgian/European Type-approval code, Weight and Max.Towing Weight). Does anyone have datasheets showing production months for VIN serial nr ranges? For example "from 2N54H-111111 to -222222 = nov 1971", etc...? For a (very rough) estimate: I did find a number 72 in a dotted circle, stamped in a bracket of the steering column. Assuming that is still the original part, that would date it to somewhere in 1972, instead of late 71, I guess? Also: engine code H (351 2barrel V8), is that the Windsor or Cleveland motor? Thanks, Werner Response(s)

1968 Ford Galaxie 500 conv
| Question: I have a 1968 Galaxie 500 conv with a severely rusted frame, are any other years or hardtop frames the same? Response(s) Your frame interchange is 65 - 68 with only some minor variations over the years. 2 door and 4 door are the same. Convertables are different.
I have a 1968 Galaxie 500 Convertable. The only issue I have had with any rusting is the floor pans, due to sitting in yard for a couple years. My frame is in great shape and the body has never been wrecked.
I found a few small holes in the bottom of the rectangular tubes that run front to back on my 68 LTD when sandblasting. I had a metal fabricator bend me some 11 gauge channels that came up the sides an inch and welded into good metal. The body had to be lifted but not completely removed. The inside was soaked in rust killer and sealers, etc. This may work for you if it is the same area. I can get you the name and number of the guy that made the parts and he probably still has the drawing that I sent him.

1964 Galaxie 500
| Question: I'm rebiulding the front end on my 64 Galaxie and I am putting new shafts and bushings in the upper control arms. I know that there is a Ford tool for this but I can't locate one. Is there anybody that will sell me one or can you give me an idea of how to center the shaft while I'm screwing the bushings in. Any help is appreciated. Response(s) I know this is not much help but look at these sites. The owner made a simple centering tool. It also appears that you also need some sort of stabilizer to "fix" a design problem.

1964 Galaxie 500xl
| Question: Is there a wrong way to install front springs on a 64 Galaxie 500XL? Want to make sure I don't put them back the wrong way. Response(s) no they are the same on both ends.no wrong way to put them in
yes you can put them in upside down, the top of the spring is flat and finishes with a taper, the bottom ends in the termination of a coil, there is a recess in the lower control arm that it fits into, there is a rubber spring silencer that goes in the topa that fits around the spring relief, if you look closely at you springs you will notice that they will only stand up on the ground on one end, that is the top.

1967 Ford Galaxie 500
| Question: I have a 67 Galaxie and I am trying to remove the rear brake drums. I have adjusted the shoes all the way in and still can't get the drums off. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks. Response(s) If you've already tried a drum puller and it didn't come off I would do the following.
a)remove the brake cylinder bleeder screw just in case some pressure is keeping the shoes out against the drum.
b) loosen the emergency cable adjuster to that wheel. Sometimes the cable is so tight that it will keep the shoe out and against the drum
c) grind off the heads of the hold down pins on the backing plate for the primary and secondary shoes. This will free the shoes up and might let the drum off.

As far as interchange of seats go, anyone know if seats can be swapped with any other model? Response(s) Hi, Stuart. You can check out dearbornclassics.com, or macsautoparts.com. They might have a few of the trim parts you need, but the selection is limited. As a fellow 66 Galaxie owner, I can tell you from experience, that trim parts are just hard to come by, other than small bits and pieces. 1961 ford fairlane
| Question: Can I put a 289 hp with a fmx trans in a 1961 Ford Fairlane that came with a 223 cubic inch 6 cylinder without doing any cutting or welding? Response(s) Eddie, your 1961 Ford Fairlane is really a Galaxie and the last year the Fairlane is a fullsized car. The 289 should bolt to the FMX, but make sure its the 3 speed auto / CruisOmatic which should have the green dot drive for second gear. You may need to swap out the bell housing from a 289 since the main V8 in 1961 was the 292 Y block or the 352 and the 390. The chassis from 1960 to 1964 is the same basic car but the trans mount for the standard 6 may need to be moved and you might find the driveshaft is to long or to short. You can pretty much bolt any Ford V8 into the spot but the trans mount will be different for the V8 setup. Best thing to do is find a donor car, it can be a wagon, a 4 door, any model Galaxie with a V8 from 1961 to 1964, 1963 1963 will have 289, 352, 390.

1965 Galaxie 500 xl
| Question: My husband has a 65 Galaxie 500xl. There was a sign we had found in the car. It was a banner type paper printed sign that read “Need help” “send for gas” “out of gas” Or something similar along these lines. My husband has since lost the paper, and we have asked EVERYWHERE if they have ever heard of this “help” sign that came with the car. Wanted to throw it out there and see if anyone has seen or heard of this sign. I am interested in purchasing an original one if someone can send me in the right direction.
If you have any tips or information for me, please email me at kaarinasimpson@gmail.com
Sincerly wife on a mission, Kaarina Response(s) Ina, what you refer to came in the Ford owners manual for the later 1960 models Fords. I have a few in the later 60 and early 70's models, it was probably added by someone who had a later year Galaxie or Ford. It is standard issue by Ford Motor Company, it should say FMC or something on the paper. Contact Dearborn Classics they may have some.

1963 Galaxie 500 convert
| Question: Can I run 15"x6" rims with out any head aches? Response(s) Marty, the 1963 Galaxie came optional with 15 inch rims. Many run 15x7 and bigger in the rear and run 14x7 in the front to get that rake look. The real thing you have to watch is to make sure you do not run to tall of a tire, this will change the speedo and gear ratio. It can be done and you can really stuff the rear with some wide tires. I run 60 series on the rear of my 60 and 64 Galaxies.
You will be find with 15x6 many run 15 in the rear and 14 in the front.

| Question: My son and I are restoring his recently purchased Galaxie and are working on the engine. We gave the intake manifold a bath to clean it up for fresh engine paint. Most intakes don't have this - do they? Can I buy a replacment? Is there a good way to clean it or is a replacement needed? Thanks in advance. Rich D. 1963 Ford Galaxie Sedan 2dr
| Question: Looking to install six belts in my 63 Galaxie sedan. It is my understanding that there are mounting locations for two in the front and none in the back. Where can I look for more information on this install. Is it even possible to put six belts in this car? Response(s) The 1963 Galaxie 500 did have optional rear seat belts and there should be bolt holes under the rear seat, you will need to pull the bottom of the back seat up, it just kind of pops out by lifting and pushing it backwoods. You might just find it has rear seat belts already, many people stuffed the rear belts down under the seats. If the belts are not there you should see bolt locations on the floor pan. Just remove the bottom rear seat first.

1969 Galaxie 500
| Question: I have a 1969 Galaxie with 390 engine, is it possible to add ac to it? Response(s) Maury, in 1969 Ford offered AC as optional equipment. You can either try and find a system in the junk yard or get a custom AC system from Classic Auto Air, which might be a better option in todays world. Your 1969 390 would have the same AC system on all full sized 1969 1970 Mercurys and Fords with the 390. So you could use all the brackets and mounts and compressors.

Ford Galaxie 500 Xl
| Question: Hi. Do any of you know how to adjust a manual window regulator on a 67 Galaxie? When I crank the windoe it does go up evenly (the left side of the window is a little bit higher than the right side so the window did not close completely. Thank for your answers. Regards E.B Response(s) Ed, you will need to remove the door panel and make an adjustment to the 2 bump stops that are on each window. They are out of adjustment and can easily be unbolted and realigned. Some have rubber on them that wears out. The only other reason this woould happen if the window is off the track which you would see with the door panel off. Good luck

1962 Ford Country squire
| Question: Valve cover and air cleaner color for a 352 cubic inch is? I know the block and intake to be black. I have seen pale or powder blue (like Ford body color), gold and argent silver but I thought those colors were designated to 390's and 406's and Ford blue yet thought that came later. The correct color and where to purchase would be appreciated. Thanks. Response(s) Your 1962 Galaxie 500 with a 352 would be a black block and blue valve covers and blue air cleaner, you can use the blue that is known as Ford blue, Dearborn Classics would carry this color. Ford engines are black up to 1964, in 1965 they go to the all Ford blue. Another area to watch is the front valance between the bumper and grille should be silver or gray, many people paint this body color on many year cars, it is silver or gray to blend in with the chrome.

| Question: I have a 1964 Galaxie 500 XL which isn't getting any fuel to the carburetor. I went ahead and changed the fuel pump out. Now I'm not getting any fuel to the pump. Response(s) I installed my hoses backward on the fuel pump, took me a few days to figure out the problem, Roll Tide Tom-Ala

1964 Galaxie 500 xl
| Question: I am trying to find motor numbers on my 1964 Ford. I want to see if it is a 390 or 352. Thanks Roy Dwyer. Response(s) These blocks are the same
The only way to know for sure is to take measurements.
Pull a cylinder head
4.050 inch bore is a 390 cid
remember to measure at the ridge since this is the original bore
I recently purchased a 1964 Galaxie 500 & I typed the vin# on vin decoder site & found out mine was made in Norfolk,Va. & has a 352.

1966 Ford Galaxie
| Question: How can I easily add/convert to power brakes? Response(s) Most 68 Galaxies and LTDs had disc brakes and they work good. I would assume the spindles would bolt right up. I have also used 71 LTD spindles on a 64 using the right ball joints and they worked really good. Just make sure the ball joints have the right taper angle for the spindle and bolt up correctly to the control arms. You have to use at least 15" rims with either of these.
We used 1969 discs have had no trouble for over 10years. Was very easy job.

Ford Galaxie 500?
| Question: I looking at buying a 63 Galaxie 500 Conv. from a guy and you look at the car and see that it's a 500 by the emblems and the interior but the guy he bought it from said he took off the Vin/Data tag when he painted it and lost it. The title the man gave him has a VIN number of 3G69Z183879 and I looked it up and thats a title for a 500XL Conv and not a 500. The VIN tag under the hood on top of the firewall by the hinge on the passenger side had a metal plate that look like it was tack welded over the top of it. He broke that off but water had got in between and rusted it so bad you can't make out the numbers. My question is this. Is there anywhere else on the car where I can find the VIN number like on the frame or anywhere else? Response(s) I would either talk him down or run like hell.

| Question From: Al Vesel 2011-10-25
1967 Ford Galaxie 500 2 dr convertible
| Question: Is there a difference between a 2 door hardtop door/window and a convertible door/window? I just purchased a 1967 Ford Galaxie 500 convertible. The top when up had gaps where you could see inside the car. I took it to a reputable place to have a top put on. They looked at it and told me that the cables were missing and once they put a new top on, they will install new cables and that will bring it tight and you won't see inside the car anymore when top was up. They called me today and said there was an issue and that once the new top was installedthere was still a gap, but not as much where you could see inside. He said for me to come and take a look at it and he thought that the car had maybe a 2 door hartop window or door in it, when it should be a convertible door or window. I have to go today, 1025-2011 and pick it up. I haven't paid for it all. They charged me $1,500.00 for the top and back plastic window and installation. I thought that was high especially when it looks like the tops only run around $300.00 new, even from Dearborn. I don't want to pay $1,500.00 for a new top if it looks almost the same as the other one. That is the only reason I had them put a new top on is because of that gap space between the top and the top of the window/door. The top that was on it prior wasn't that bad, just a few places that were stitched and the cable ends were broke so you couldn't draw the cable together to tighten it. I think he's giving me a line of bull when he said it's because of the wrong door or window on the car. Response(s)

1969 Galaxie Convertible
| Question: Today I was told of a '69 Galaxie convertible w/ a 390 that is for sale. Don't know much about it other than it has 36k original miles, but has been sitting for more than 30 years. Not even sure if it runs. Owner is asking $1,500. Reasonable? Thanks Response(s) 1500 for a 69 galaxie is very reasonable depending on what you plan to do with it. Alot of people get them to restore, so if you want to put more money to bring it to life its well worth it.

1968 Ford Galaxie 500 XL
| Question: I'm looking at purchasing a 1968 Galaxie 500XL convt. and I had the seller send me a picture of the warranty tag/plate from the driver's door. Unfortunatly the door must have been replaced at some time because the tag says the car should be a hardtop and a 302 vs 390 that is in the car. Where else on the car can I find a tag with the same information as on the door warranty tag/plate? Response(s) I have a 1967 and the vin is under the left front finder. The only bad thing is you have 2 remove the finder
On a 65/66, there is a metal tab on top of the firewall. Look on the right side above the airbox near the hinge.

they should be mounted on the doors not the fenders. I own a 64-500. mine has a single mirror interior adjust knob. 62 63 hardtop Galaxie
| Question: I have a 62 or 63 Galaxie hardtop body only from the friewall back no glass or door. RUST FREE zero rust or bondo. any interest and what might it be worth. Also a few boxes of parts window cranks heater motor not sure whats there. Response(s) Ken.. There is a pretty big difference between 1962 and 1963. The 63 64 are more the same than the 62 63. A 1962 or 1963 Hardtop would be a square roof and not the fastback style. The 1962 will have a rounded rear quarter where the 1963 has large round taillight housing molded right into the rear quarters. Best thing to do is a yahoo search on the image page to find which one you have. The 62 square roof is not as popular as the 63 so knowing the years is important. If its a rolling chassis that also adds to it. The 62 and 63 would not have much interchangeable body parts, the 61 and 62 share much as do the 63 and 64. Best guess would be about $200 depending on which and what parts, could be up too $1,500.00 but might be pushing it. All depends whats there.
Just do a Google search for Ford Vin Decoder then put in your Vin # and it will tell you the year and other info about the car.
A good Vin decoder is called, Decode This do a google search on it and put in your Vin#

1964 Galaxie Fastback 289
| Question: I have a 64' fastback that I'm planing a frame swap on and I would like to know if a 64'convertible X frame would fit under a fastback? I would like to go with the x frame for more support and I've tracked down a conv. car in my area for a good price, I just need to know if it will work before I buy. Response(s) The only real difference between the hardtop and the convertible should be the convertible crossmember. You might want to see how bad the frame is on the convertible before actually making the switch. You might find your best bet might be to cut out the X member and weld to your original frame. Either is going to be a lot of work and I think the best condition frame wins but I also like knowing the original frmae is there if you want matching numbers. The convertible must be pretty rough if its a parts car and they do rust and rott pretty good compared to the hardtop. I guess it all comes down to money and time.

1967 Ford Galaxie 500
| Question: I have a 1967 Galaxie 500, I was told that it was 1 of a few built with a 410 my VIN shows 390 how can I find out? VIN # 7U55H124073 Response(s) there were no galaxies built with the 410 engine . the 410 was only uesd in the mercury cars . your engine has been a non factory install
the only true way to find out if it is a 410 cid is to pull ahead and measure the bore and stroke . the 390 is 4.05 bore and 3.78 stroke . the 410 is 4.05 bore and 4.98 stroke
to measure the stroke you will need to move the piston all the way down to the bottom of the cylinder and measure the depth then move it all the way up to the top of the stroke and measure the distance from the top of the piston to the block lip . then take the differnces between the two measurements and that will be the stroke
I have checked that. It has a 428 crank witch is the crank thay use in the 410. Thear is no engine # but a c on the back of the block. It is a 410. What I want 2 Know is how I can find out If it was bilt that way
Going by the Vin # on your car 7=1967,U=Assembly Plant Louisville,KY 55=Galaxie 500 Fastback, H=390cid 270hp 2BBL carb with 9.5:1 compresion and the 124073 is the serial # that means your car was the 24073 car made. So if you have a 410 in it now it was added latter because your car left the factory with a 390.

1964 Ford Fairlane Two Door
| Question: What model Ford exterior driver side door handles with push buttons will fit a 1964 Ford Fairlane? Response(s) 1963 and 1964 will interghange
The door handles for a 2 door and a 4 door are the same on most models. You can you a 4 door set and the handles from the right side should fit the front or back door, just left or right is different. I have used wagons and 4 doors cars to get extra door handles at junk yards for years. Also remember the Mercury Comet has probably got the same handles. I beleive these are reproduced.

1965 Ford Galaxie 2 door
| Question: Do the fenders and windshield from a 1966 Ford Galaxie 2 door, fit on a 1965 Ford Galaxie 2 door? Response(s) yes the 65 and 66 parts will interchange but not 67 or later
63-74 Interchange Manual says they are different. Can Anyone explain. They look close but is the body design different?
I own a 66 Gal conv.
Yes, they will probably fit. However, they physically look different. Google images of both to see the difference. 65 is more squared off around the headlights.
They are actually different because the 1965 is a square style at the corner of the fenders where the 1966 is more rounded. the fenders might lineup but they are not the same fenders.

1964 Ford Galaxie 500XL
| Question: I have a 1964 Ford Galaxie 500 XL with a 352. I need to buy a new power steering pump. I need to know what the difference is in a rear mount and a front mount power steering pump. How can you tell the difference? Response(s) I have never heard of a rear or front pump, there is 2 different styles or setups for 1964 big block cars depending in most cases if you have AC or not. AC cars have the reservoir mounted on the drivers side inner fender and most non AC cars have the reservoir mounted on top of the pump. The pumps are the same just one bolts the power steering fluid reservoir on top and another on the inner fender. Best thing to do is remove the pump and take it to the parts house if possible so you can compare. 390 / 352 pumps are the same ones. I owm a 1964 XL with a 352.

1963 Galaxie 500
| Question: 1963 Galaxie 500; 352; two barrel. New [mechanical] fuel pump and filter, reworked carburetor. Car starts and runs better than it did 55,000 miles ago when it was new. PROBLEM: When car sits a week or so it will not start w/o a little priming through the air filter/carb. Have checked for external leaks and tightened line connects. Any ideas. Response(s) bad carb. try a different carb should fix the problem
It is actually a common problem with todays gas because it evaporates very quickly. In my 1964 Galaxie I run Mobil, or Shell, Chevron Premium fuel. You are probably running regular which should be ok, just the gas evaporates very quickly these days.

1964 Galaxie 500 2 door 390 4 barrel
| Question: Does the 1964 Ford Galaxie have a drain plug for its gas tank? Response(s) no . if you want to drain the tank you will need to unhook the fuel line and gauge wire from the front of the tank then remove the straps and lower the tank from the car then drain it from the fill tube.
Or leave it in the car and siphon the gas out with a garden hose into a large bucket.
I presently havre ther tank out of my 64 and it has a small drain plug way up in the corner opposite the filler ??

1965 Galaxie 500 ltd
| Question: Hi. I recently replaced the 390 engine with a 351 drive train on my '65 Galaxie. Problem is that when I press on the brakes, the car engine dies off. It just appears to choke and switches off. I have repalced the brake booster, overhauled the carb, changed the plug leads, and still have the same issue. Please suggest. I want to fix this on my own, so a mech shop is not an option. Response(s) On my 68, I had a master cylinder start leaking out of the rear when you depressed the brakes and it was sucking brake fluid into the engine. It also ruined the diaphram in the booster. Check if the back is wet. Good luck.
A friend had had this problem when he switched to a 1970 390 in his 64 Country Sedan. The problem was in the intake manifold because of all the vaccum lines from the 1970. We had to switch to an early 64 intake to get it to work correctly. I would suggest you check your vacuum lines to make sure you are feeding off the right one, you maybe taking vacuum away from the engine and you should have a vacuum line going to the trans also.

1971 Ford Galaxie 500
| Question: I have a 1971 Ford Galaxie 500 that is set up for small block and I want to put a big block 460 in it what would I have to change and were can I get what I need. Response(s) you will need to change motor mounts , trans and mount ,cross member also the radiator . you can get the mounts from crites auto parts
sorry i ment crites preformance parts.com
The best thing to do if possible is to find a donor car. You could use a 1971 1972 Mercury Marquis, Monterey, Galaxie, LTD sedans or station wagons. You could even use a Lincoln Continental Sedan. All are full sized, of course the trick is to find a complete one. A donor car will provide you with the engine all the crossmembers and transmission along with driveshaft and any wiring you may need. Best bet maybe a junk yard. Takes some work but it can be done.
Thanks

1968 Galaxie 500 Fastback
| Question: Anyone out there put headers on a '68 with a 390? How did they fit? I would like a set but don't want to have to hammer or saw! Thanks Response(s) The guys over at fordpowertrain.com made a set for my 67 LTD with a 390 and they fit perfectly. You might wanna give them a holler.
I have 2 68 LTDs with 390s. I used the short headers from fordpowertrain.com on the most recent and the Hooker SuperComps on the other one. The Hookers use a 2 piece pipe going to either 6 or 7 cylinder and they are 1.75" and long tubes. We got them in with the engine in the car, but it was a lot of twisting and trying.

| Question: I own a '66 Galaxie 500. while researching my VIN number I have found the 3rd and 4th digits (66) to designate both Galaxie 500 "fastback", and Galaxie 500 Hardtop, depending on the web site. !966 Ford LTD 4 door hard top
| Question: We are restoring a 1966 Ford LTD 4 door hardtop. There is a vent along the out side of the rear window that has two drains that run through the car behind the rear seat and exit under the car. The rubber drains have deteriorated. Where can I find replacements? Response(s) Its called Silent Flo. Id love to repair mine to see if it really works. I pulled the knob out and I felt a slight change in rpm from the vaccum canister opening, but my hoses are dry rotted too.
The 64-71 Thunderbirds have the same system and those hoses are available at Thunderbird parts houses, but I don't know if they're the same. I just finished restoring a 66 LTD 4-door hardtop. I used my old hoses as a pattern and made new ones out of an inner tube and stapled them together. Email and we can talk.

1968 Ford XL Convertible
| Question: We just started the restoration of our 1968 Ford XL Convertible! What a nightmare! This is not fun! We took it all apart, found a restoration shop we thought would do us right. So far they are 100% over their estimate and are apparently charging us 40 hours a week, for every week it is in the shop. Do you think they are really working on it 40 hours a week or are we being charged shop time? Response(s) You need to show up every Friday and have them show you what they have done by the hour. This should answer your question. They should only charge you for work performed, not for it just sitting there!

Ford Galaxie 500
| Question: What is the best way to clean and polish the aluminum trim that runs down the center of the body from front to back? I have a 68 Ford Galaxie 500 2DR fastback. They have some oxidation on the outside of the trim. Response(s) brasso will work or you can use 3000 grit wet/dry sand paper if its real bad . if you use the 3000 grit paper use it with dish soap in the water in a bucket and keep the paper wet .
Quadruple zero (0000) steel wool from any auto parts store. Except NAPA, they are useless. Works AMAZINGLY.
After you use 3000 grit sandpaper, go to auto parts store and buy some "never dull pads". It comes in a can and smells like kerosene.

| Question: What is the trick to installing a fuel pump without removing the PS pump and getting the shaft under the cam lobe? Response(s) You can push the PS pump to the side if you loosen the bolts on the mounting brackets a bit, to give you more room, also if you can rotate and take off the fuel filter canister ,this will give you some more flexabilty to re install the pump. Once you get the bolts for the pump started by holding the pump onto the block to depress the arm, tightening them up will pull the pump into place.

1967 Galaxie 500 4 door
| Question: Hi i own a 67 Galaxie 500 4 door with 289 engine in original condition. I found him a few weeks ago in a container from a old lady. She has forgotten the car since 15 years. Brakes were frozen but first key turn it runs :) now my question: I found in the trunk a little vent...looks like a air vent...for what is it...it has 2 hoses and they go in the floor. Sorry for the maybe stupid question but it's my first (and last) Galaxie. I love this car and I will ship it end of the month to Germany where I originaly come from. I like to know as much as I can about my "baby". Cheers from Vancouver Andy. Response(s) Some 68 Galaxies had a hot air rear window defroster that was mounted in the trunk and blew up through the package tray at the window. Just a guess. You could send a picture.

1964 Ford Galaxie 500 Convertible
| Question: I have a 64 Galaxie convert. Only drive it a few times a year. Last year I drove at dusk and turned on my headlights but to my dismay they did not work. I tried my brights and they worked... all 4 went on... but no low beams by themselves.
Checked for fuse but found none. Just drove the car for the first time today 1 year later... now there are no brights. Parks work.... tail lights work... brakes work... dash & interior works...but no headlights. I found the fuse box under the dash on the firewall above the brake pedal, but no fuse for "headlights". I looked up from below to see of there was a fuse mounted to the headlight switch like my 1959 ford... but saw none. I tried to follow the wire to see if I could find a fuse somewhere, but traced it all the way to the headlights and found none. Where is the headlight fuse on a 64 ford galaxie? And wouldn't there be one fuse for both low beams and brights? Why might all 4 brights have worked when my low beams did not? (Could both low beams coincidentally burned out at the exact same time?) Each of the 4 lights work when jumper wire tested. Please advise. Response(s) try replacing the dimmer switch. if that doesnt fix the problem then you will need to replace the headlight switch.

| Question: I have a 69 Ford Galaxie 500 convertible with a 351 winsler. I pulled out the motor. Rebuild it, and put it back in. It started up fine. My problem is it will not shift out of park. What should I check first? Response(s) If you had the transmission rebuilt make sure they put the correct torque converter. The 351 Windsor was a mid-year engine for the 69 Galaxie and not everyone knows the correct parts without some help. I had the same thing happen to me. Luckily I had written my name and things on the old torque converter so they were able to find the correct one.
