1963 ford galaxie XL convertible

Question:
I have owned a 63 Galaxie for 28 years. Have not ran it since 92. Recently gave the vehicle to my father for his seventy b-day. The problem is that it needed to be put back together and I got stuck doing this for the last 4 months. It is a chore, I will tell you. I am right there at the finish but I have a problem with the brake booster. It is a bastard booster meaning it is not the common booster. A-1 cardone is telling me this is a rear system. A sure swift system. The more common is the midland booster. The pin inside broke in half. I cannot find anyone who has one or can repair it for me. Can anyone help me get this monkey off my back. Dad keeps asking when he is going to get his car. I need help bad. Rich

1968 Ford Galaxie 500 4 Door sedan

Question:
I have a 1968 Galaxie 4 Door Sedan. I was given a 429 cobra Jet engine with a C6 tranny. I'd like to put in it. Has anyone done this and/or are there kits to do this? Thanks!

Response(s)
I did put a 460 with c-6 in my first 67 Galaxie 2D. Motor and trans was from a 73 Lincon. Kinda did it shade tree style. All the mods i had to do was spin the 390 motor mounts, did some grinder modification to the trans linkage, and a 180 flip on the trans mount bracket. Cant remember if it was a short or long tail trans but w/e it was the drive line was same length when i was done. Seems i was able to use the stock exhaust, but know i had dual put on shortly after.

1955 Ford Fairlane sedan

Question:
I have a 1955 Ford Fairlane country sedan with a 272 c.i. engine and a 2 bbl carb, all original. It currently has an oil bath air filtration system, which I would like to replace with chrome air filter. (Having just rebuild and detailed the engine, the oil batch unit just looks kinda hokie) What method is used to secure the replacement unit to the carb? There is no center pole for the air filter to screw onto. Any thoughts? Has anyone ever run into this before?

Should be riveted to the drivers door or to the firewall. It won't be as long as the new VINs.

There is also a hidden VIN tag on the body, removal of the passenger fender is needed.

1963 1/2 Galaxie

Question:
63 Galaxie changed the solenoid, now I have no power in the car anywhere. No lights inside or out no power to ignition. WHat happened? Battery is good, tested solenoid just feel stupid right now cause I know it is something I'm over looking. Can anyone help?

Response(s)
you through your fuse box eather under the hood or inside your car the one inside the car is right behind your break pedal try this if anything there might be a relay between your battery and fuse box just follow all wires from battery and make sure none are torn or decade

You most likely put the fusible link power feed on the wrong solenoid terminal or left it off completely. This is the 10 ga. wire with an eyelet that feeds all power to the fusebox, it goes on the same solenoid post that the positive battery cable hooks to.

1968 galaxie 500

Question:
My break pedal goes to the floor when I start it. I just had engine rebuilt. I did breaks calipers and bearrings today. I don't think the hose on master cylinder is correct my mechanic was really an ass he left me with a mess to deal with and I paid six thousand dollars and got took bad. At least it runs but I can't drive it. I hear air when I push the break while it is not running I haven't had a chance to bleed them yet, but I don't think its gonna fix my problem. Any other ideas after I bleed them? Thank you for your time.

Response(s)
Ok Mark, not sure if this will help but here it goes. Through working on my own 65 galaxie breaks I understand that if the power break booster is working it WILL pull the pedal down further when the pedal is being pushed and the car is started. If this does not happen your power break booster is not working. Second, the galaxie has a single circuit break line system. Meaning that the whole entire system works together (and fails together) at the same time. you need to get ALL of the air out of the system. Third, AND MOST IMPORTANT, if you have 4 wheel drum brakes (as I do) drum brakes are NOT self adjusting as brake calipers are. You MUST adjust the brakes evenly and all the way around in order for the brake system to work properly... otherwise you will run out of pedal travel BEFORE the brakes start slowing the car down. Hope this helps. Mike.

1965 ford galaxie 500 LTD

Question:
I have acouple of questions. I just purchased a 1965 Ford Galaxie 500. The frame is eaten up pretty good on the sides by the doors, but the rest of the frame is in very good condition. Should I cut out and replace the eaten up parts, or go ahead and replace the whole frame? Also anyone have any websites that may help me on locating parts for my Galaxie? I am restoring it on my own and am new to this so any pointers are greatly appreiciated! Thank you. Patrick

Response(s)
My '65 galaxie 500 frame was the same way, and was completely rotted at the passenger trailing arm frame box. I luckily came across another 65 donor car and switching the body to the new frame was very easy... and I found out just how bad my frame was. Literally the body was holding the frame together. I would definitely find a southern car in a junk yard and switch the complete frame out. If that is not possible remove the body from the frame and rework the frame. Removing the body is not as hard as you would think. BE CAREFUL opening the doors while the body is off of the frame as you do not want to buckle the body anywhere. Hope this helps. Mike.

59 galaxie sunliner w 352

Question:
I have a 352 motor and I'm told the carb is gonna need to be replaced. It looks like it is a 2bbl and I know there was a 4bbl option. I don't know where to begin. Should I upgrade to the 4bbl and if so do I have to change intake, and/or anything else? If I wanted to do some upgrades should I look at other things too? Does it make sense to bore out, etc. Also what are the proper engine colors for the 352?

Response(s)
Rob, you would need a new intake manifold to step up to a 4b, but I would advise against doing only that. If your engine has the bore, stroke and pistons to match a 2b carb, putting a 4b on it will likly just dump more gas into it than it can handle and your performance will be worse. If you are going to rebuild the engine, there are certainly things that can be done to match it up with a 4b carb.

Question:
Long question, I am replacing the stock 289 c-4 with a 1984 351W C-6. I found a bucket seat interior with console and floor shifter. Park on the shifter would be low on the tranny and low on the shifter would be park on the tranny. I'm also looking for the linkage between the shifter and tranny. 1968 Galaxie 500 / 390 FE 6.4

Question:
I've been having problems with my neutral safety switch finding the sweet spot so it will crank. Well, once I got it started today while I was driving the starter engaged on its own as if I was trying to start it. So I stopped to shut the car off and when I turned the key off it kept running. Then my dash lights went out. Well the starter stopped after a few minutes so I drove home. While driving home my dash lights went out but would come back on when I used my turn signal and would go back off after my blinker kick off. When I got home it wouldn't shut off when I turned the key off so I had to take the breather off and put my hands over the carb to smother it. Now when I try to start it my dummy lights come on, but won't start or click or nothing. What do you think my problem is and were do I need to start? I can work on cars but I've never had this problem before. Thanks for any info.

Jim, The Custom 500 was a different model than the Galaxie, but essentially the same car. The trim levels are different, but the body parts are interchangeable as the cars are the same dimensions. See the information at: 1969 Ford Models.

i have a 1968 galaxie 500 with the 390 it has the lighter blue on it

I have A 67 and it has the dark blue I think it"s A personal choice

well not really a personal choice. Here is an article from Mustang Monthy that might help you out a little bit but a 390 in a 67 should be the corporate blue (dark Blue) color. http://www.mustangmonthly.com/howto/173_0308_paints_engines/index2.html

Question:
I am looking at a 59 skyliner that has a has a body color of indian tourquoise and a white top. Was this an original color combination or did they always have two tone upper and lower body colors. Thank you.

Jim, We have the model information for the 1959 Skyliner here at the Galaxie500Site. You can find it at 1959 Skyliner Model Info. Download the exterior color chart PDF file and you'll find that the color combination of upper color 2 (Colonial White) and lower color 12 (Indian Turquoise) is a factory combination. You can also then see the other color combinations that were available in 1959. Hope this helps. Ed

1964 Galaxie 500, 2 door fastbk (not XL)

Question:
On the 289 V8, what make/model 4 barrel carb was installed or available from the factory in 1964? What is the correct air cleaner and color for a 4 barrel carb on the 289 1964 Galaxie? Is it the same as on the Mustang - are they interchangeable (both carb and air cleaner)?

Response(s)
Autolite carbs were installed for the 289 and I think the 390 as well.

Start at the beginning are you using the standard two barrel manifold? If so the factory used an Autolite 2100 2V (2 Barrel)
